Therapy is a form of healing. Counselling specifically is a form of ‘talking therapy’ which allows people to talk about their difficulties and issues in a safe and confidential environment. Counselling allows people to explore their thoughts and feelings in more depth without a fear of judgement.

Heartical is a Jamaican adjective meaning ‘from the heart’. It can also mean wholehearted, heartfelt and someone with integrity. The word is mainly used in the Rastafarian culture. The nickname Heartical was given to me by an uncle during my first voyage to Jamaica in 2011 and the nickname has stuck with me ever since.

Anybody from any background can benefit from seeing a counsellor. If you feel life is getting on top of you, you are struggling with mental health issues or feeling burdened, then you could benefit from counselling.

You can expect a safe and non-judgmental counselling environment which will allow you to explore your thoughts and feelings from a different perspective. You can also expect to improve your self-esteem and confidence. I can offer you coping strategies to help with any difficulty that you are experiencing.

I became a counsellor because with my experience Black Men are generally underrepresented in the field, furthermore young relatable counsellors were rare when I first sought counselling in my teenage years.

In short psychologists generally treat and diagnose severe mental health disorders.
Whilst a counsellor helps clients to achieve overall wellness in the form of talking
therapies.

I work with young people aged 14 years and older. I have an enhanced Disclosure
and Barring Service (DBS) and I receive regular supervision.
